 🔍 Regulatory Update

Important policy changes:

  • Colorado extends sales tax to SaaS and all software delivery methods — HB26-1223, signed by Governor Jared Polis, repeals Colorado's software exception and classifies computer software — including SaaS delivered by disc, download, or remote access — as taxable tangible personal property, starting January 1, 2027. Custom software built for a specific user remains exempt, and the change applies only at the state level, leaving existing home-rule local taxes unaffected. [Learn more]
  • California set to expand sales tax to SaaS starting 2027 — California Governor Gavin Newsom is set to sign a state budget trailer bill extending California's sales tax to SaaS for the first time, effective January 1, 2027. Businesses selling SaaS into California will need to register, collect, and remit California sales tax by that date. [Learn more]
  • Maryland formalizes multiple points of use certificate process for digital products — Maryland SB 644, effective January 1, 2027, establishes a formal process for buyers to claim a multiple points of use (MPU) exemption on digital products and taxable services used across multiple states. Buyers must register with the Comptroller before issuing MPU certificates, and vendors who receive a properly completed certificate are relieved of their collection obligation. [Learn more]
  • Utah clarifies sales tax applies to digital products regardless of delivery method — Utah SB 162, effective July 1, 2026, confirms that digital audio-visual works, digital audio works, digital books, and gaming services are taxable whether streamed or downloaded, resolving a compliance gap created by older case law that treated the two delivery methods differently. 📢 Key Anrok Update

This edition brings three updates: a new Products API, G2 leader recognition, and early access to Stripe Connect.

Products API ➁   G2 Leader ➂   Stripe Connect

Managing a large or fast-changing catalog used to mean constant CSV uploads and manual rework to keep it in sync with the right tax categories. The Anrok Products API now gives you a programmatic way to create and configure products, straight from the systems where your catalog already lives. Pull tax categories on demand, map them in your own tooling, and stand up new products as fast as you ship.

  • Built for catalogs of any size — 50 products or 5,000, no manual re-keying
  • Works alongside in-product setup and CSV import, not instead of them
  • Fits standard developer workflows and agentic ones

For more information, see Read the API docs.

Anrok has moved into the leader quadrant and is now officially recognized as a leader in sales tax and VAT compliance on G2, reflecting our commitment to accurate, fast compliance backed by expert support. Summer 2026 badges and recognitions include:

  • Best Relationship
  • Best Results
  • Best Usability
  • Most Implementable
  • Best Est. ROI

Stripe Connect powers your marketplace. Anrok now runs natively alongside it to handle the tax, so your marketplace sales and platform fees land in one place — with nexus monitoring, registrations, calculations, filings, and remittance across every connected account and jurisdiction. We're opening it up to a first group of platforms and would like yours in the mix.

  • Most platforms get connected within days, with no separate tax integration project
  • Same global coverage as your direct sales — sales tax, VAT, and GST across 100+ countries
  • Runs alongside the existing Anrok Stripe app, with no migration and no double-counting

🚀 Product Update

New features and changes:

  1. Create custom product tax categories (PTC) — Sellers can now create their own custom product tax categories directly in Anrok, rather than relying solely on Anrok's standard category list. See Create a custom product tax categories (PTC).
  2. View credit carry-forwards on returns — Returns now include a "Credits not applied on this return" section, where you can see your available credit carry-forwards in a jurisdiction. See Approach refunds and credits on returns.
  3. Updated guidance on prepayment returns — Added notes on how prepayment returns work in Anrok and how to override the amount Anrok calculates. The notes also clarify that Chicago and New York prepayments apply to the quarterly and annual returns respectively, while states such as Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Ohio use prepayments for the following monthly period. See Edit prepayment amounts on returns.
  4. Full Global Compliance — Anrok has expanded coverage to 19 new non-resident countries. In-app registrations are now available for 6 additional jurisdictions, bringing the total to 13, with 2 more on the way. Local returns now supported in 8 jurisdictions.
  5. Anrok Atlas (closed beta) — Anrok Atlas is in closed beta, and the beta window is closing soon. See Request early access.
  6. In-app returns — Every return Anrok files for you now comes with its paperwork attached. Open any filing to download the filed return and payment confirmation — no state-portal logins, no email to our team, no scramble when an auditor asks. See Best practices for reviewing filed returns.
  7. Stripe Standalone Credit Notes — When you issue a sales credit note in Stripe, Anrok now records it as its own transaction, with a unique ID and a full audit trail. Your original invoice stays untouched, so a refund no longer clouds the record it came from. Find and filter credit notes right in your transactions list, or pull them through the Anrok API.
  8. Self-serve transactions reprocessing — Need to apply a late exemption certificate or fix a customer address on transactions you've already booked? You can now reprocess them yourself from your Anrok dashboard, without opening a support ticket. Anrok recalculates the affected periods, so your filings reflect the correction. See Reprocess your transactions.
