Sales tax registration process by jurisdiction

Overview

To streamline your sales tax compliance, Anrok can register you in new jurisdictions, file returns, and remit payments directly to tax authorities. This automated approach saves you time and helps ensure accurate, on-time filings across all your registered jurisdictions.

How Anrok registers you depends on whether you already hold a state tax account in that jurisdiction. Each state below includes two tabs covering both situations:

  1. No existing tax account — You have no state tax account of any kind (income, franchise, sales, or any other type) in the state. Anrok creates and establishes your sales tax account from scratch.
  2. Existing account, different tax type — You already hold a state tax account of another type (for example, income, franchise, or excise/withholding). Rather than creating a new account, Anrok registers sales tax on your existing account and links it.

Once you're registered, this authorization allows Anrok to file sales tax returns on your behalf, submit payments directly to state tax authorities, and retrieve account information.

The registration process varies by state, as each tax authority has its own procedures. Select your jurisdiction below, then choose the tab that matches your situation:

Note

This guide covers both first-time registrations (no existing state tax account) and registrations onto an account you already hold for a different tax type. For each jurisdiction, open the tab that matches your situation — ① No existing tax account or ② Existing account, different tax type. Anrok handles the full process on your behalf in either case.

  2. Anrok will monitor the sales tax registration and wait for your registration approval and for the jurisdiction to provide the license number.
  3. Once your registration has been approved, Anrok will create your Wyoming Internet Filing System (WYIFS) account, then list the account login information in the Notes section of the jurisdiction.
  4. Once Anrok has third-party access to your Wyoming WYIFS account, Anrok will verify your filing frequency and enable tax calculation. The jurisdiction will then be moved to a Remitting status, completing the registration process. See Review completed registrations.
  1. Anrok will email you from registrations@anrok.com to provide you with your next steps.
  2. Since you already have a Wyoming Internet Filing System (WYIFS) account of another tax type, to register for sales tax on the existing account, there are two options:
    • Have Anrok do it — disable 2-factor authentication, add your existing Wyoming Internet Filing System (WYIFS) login details to the jurisdiction's Notes section in the Anrok app (https://app.anrok.com/-/jurisdictions/us-WY), then email registrations@anrok.com to confirm you've completed these actions. Anrok will submit the registration for you.
    • Do it yourself — log into your existing Wyoming Internet Filing System (WYIFS) account, register/add a sales tax account, and notify registrations@anrok.com.
  3. Once the registration is processed, your sales tax account will be active and visible in your Wyoming Internet Filing System (WYIFS) account.
  4. Email registrations@anrok.com your Wyoming Internet Filing System (WYIFS) account access details so Anrok can gain third-party access and begin filing.
  5. Once Anrok has gained third-party access to your Wyoming Internet Filing System (WYIFS) account, Anrok will verify your filing frequency and enable tax calculation in the jurisdiction. The jurisdiction will then be moved to a status, completing the registration process. See Review completed registrations.

Note

Any physical letters related to your registration will be sent to the mailing address listed on your Anrok account's Settings page. See Change your company information.

It can take 10 to 15 business days for the authority to send you the required account information by postal mail. If it is taking longer than expected, we highly recommend contacting the jurisdiction for an update. See Jurisdiction filing directory.

While awaiting documentation from you, the jurisdiction will move to an Awaiting documentation status.
