Step 1 — Update your Accounting setting
Before we begin connecting Orb to your Anrok account, you'll first need to update your Accounting settings. This step is critical for tracking real-time updates between Anrok and Orb.
Try updating your Accounting settings in the demo above ☝️
- In the Anrok app
, go to Settings. Take me there!
- Next to Accounting, click Edit, then select the time zone that matches your Orb account. If you are not sure what time zone is being used in your Orb account, select UTC.
- When you are finished, click Save.
Step 2 — Generate an Anrok API key
To connect with Anrok, you will need to provide Orb with your Anrok account's API key. Providing this key ensures that your Anrok and Orb accounts will be able to communicate effectively.
Try generating an Anrok API key in the demo above ☝️
- In the Anrok app
, go to Settings. Take me there!
- Under Developers, click Manage API Keys.
- Click New key, then in the Notes field, enter a title or internal notes for the API key.

the Key ID and Secret.
- When you are finished, click Ok.
Step 3 — Connect to Anrok
Once you’ve updated your Accounting settings and generated an Anrok API key, you can begin connecting your Stripe account with Anrok.
Try connecting to Anrok in the demo above ☝️
- In the Orb app
, go to Settings > Taxes. Take me there!
- Select Connect to Anrok, then enter your Anrok API key and API key secret.
- When you are finished, click Save.
Step 4 — Create external item IDs for your Orb items
When integrating with Anrok, each item in Orb must be mapped for tax configuration. Orb supports this mapping by allowing you to create unique external item IDs for each of your Orb items.
Try creating external item IDs for your Orb items in the demo above ☝️
- In the Orb app
, go to Settings > Items. Take me there!
- Select an item, then click Edit.
- Under External item ID, enter a custom ID for external use.
- When you are finished, click Save.
Step 5 — Add your Orb items as product IDs
In Anrok, your Orb items will be called “product IDs”. These product IDs are the key driver for calculating taxability. It's important that you add your Orb products and services into Anrok. See What are product IDs?
Try adding your Orb items in the demo above ☝️
- In the Anrok app
, go to Product IDs. Take me there!
- Click Add product.
- Under Product name, enter the Orb item’s name.
- Under Product ID, enter the Orb item’s External item ID.

- When you are finished, click Save.
Step 6 — Import your Orb transactions
Importing your historical transactions will be a key component in maintaining a complete picture of your economic nexus exposure. To import your Orb transactions into Anrok, you will need to reach out to Orb support through your company's Slack channel or by emailing team@orb.com.
Step 7 — Add VAT IDs to your customer records
Adding a VAT ID to your customer records will be essential for tracking international economic nexus exposure. Once a VAT ID has been added, Anrok can use your customer's VAT ID to verify an invoice's taxability in a given country/region.
Try adding VAT IDs to customer records in the demo above ☝️
- In the Orb app
, go to Customers. Take me there!
- Select a customer, then under Customer details, click Edit.
- Under Tax details, enter the VAT ID’s Type and Value.
- When you are finished, click Save.
