Introduction
This guide outlines the process for linking your Hyperline account with Anrok. This will allow you to automatically synchronize transactions and update sales tax on your Hyperline invoices.
Note
Hyperline is only able to connect one tax engine at a time per invoicing entity. If you use Anrok as your Hyperline tax engine, you should manage tax calculation configurations in Anrok for all jurisdictions that correspond to regions you bill from in Hyperline.
Step 1
Enable Anrok in Hyperline
Reach out to Hyperline via support@hyperline.co or using the in-app "Help" chat option on the left sidebar to request that the Anrok tax engine be enabled for your account.
The Hyperline team will confirm when enablement is completed and you are able to proceed to Step 2.
Step 2
Update Accounting Settings in Anrok
Before connecting Hyperline to your Anrok account, you must update your Accounting settings. This step is critical for tracking real-time updates accurately between Anrok and Hyperline.
Try updating your Accounting settings in the demo above ☝️
- In the Anrok app
, go to Settings. Take me there!
- Next to Accounting, click Edit, then select the time zone that matches your Hyperline account.
- Your Hyperline time zone can be found under Settings > Business > Default timezone.
- When you are finished, click Save.
Step 3
Generate an Anrok API key
To connect with Anrok, you will need to provide Hyperline with your Anrok API key. Providing this key ensures that your Hyperline and Anrok accounts will be able to communicate effectively.
Try generating an Anrok API key in the demo above ☝️
- In the Anrok app
, go to Settings. Take me there!
- Under Developers, click Manage API Keys.
- Click New key, then in the Notes field, enter
Hyperline API Key. - Click Create key, then copy
the API Key.
- Save this value in a password manager or secure environment in case you need it at a later date.
- When you are finished, click Ok.
Step 4
Connect Anrok to Hyperline
After you’ve enabled Anrok through Hyperline's support team and generated an Anrok API key, you can connect Anrok to your Hyperline account.
Try connecting Anrok to Hyperline in the demo above ☝️
- In the Hyperline app
, navigate to Settings > Integrations> Taxes. Take me there!
- Under Tax, find Anrok.
- On the Anrok module, click Connect.
- Paste your Anrok API key in the available field, then click Connect again.
- Hyperline should now display a green Connected message on the Anrok integration module.
- Navigate to Settings > Taxes.
- Next to Tax engine, select Anrok from the available dropdown.
- Select Save Changes.
Anrok is now connected to and set as your tax provider in Hyperline, but your integration is not quite finished. Next, you'll create and configure Product IDs in Anrok to map products between these two systems.
Step 5
Create Product IDs in Anrok
Tip
To simplify setup, Anrok recommends grouping your products into one Product ID per each tax category.
If you have 10 products that all fall under tax category SaaS - General, B2B, then create a single Anrok Product with a descriptive ID, like b2b-saas-general. You can re-use this ID for all 10 products in Hyperline that share the SaaS - General tax category.
Try adding your product groups to Anrok in the demo above ☝️
In Anrok, your Hyperline products will be called product IDsProduct ID
They describe the category of product or service that was sold to your customer. Product IDs are passed to Anrok from your billing system as the product(s) you are including on the invoice.
Each product ID you sell must be mapped to a corresponding tax configuration in Anrok, which signals what taxability ruleset to apply to the product.. These product IDs are the key drivers for calculating taxability. See What are product IDs?
- In the Anrok app
, go to Product IDs. Take me there!
- Click Add product.
- Under Product ID, create a unique Product ID.
- Under Product name, enter the name for your product.
- Reminder: a singular Anrok Product ID that groups many of your Hyperline items will reduce the number of Product IDs you need to create. This can also simplify mapping these Product IDs to Hyperline in Step 7.
- Under Assign a tax configuration, select a corresponding Product type and Tax category for each product. See Available tax categories for Product IDs.
- When you are finished, click Save.
Step 6
Create a default product for Hyperline
Tip
Hyperline strongly recommends creating a Product ID to use as a default code in your Hyperline account. Without this, Hyperline will select a product from your mapped products and use it as your default product.
Try creating a default product for Hyperline in the demo above ☝️
- In the Anrok app
, go to Product IDs. Take me there!
- Click Add product.
- Under Product ID, enter default_hyperline_product_anrok.
- Under Product name, enter the name Default Hyperline Product.
- Under Assign a tax configuration, select a corresponding Product type and Tax category to use as your default product. See Select a tax configuration.
- This is the tax configuration that will be applied to any Hyperline products without an Anrok – Product code assigned in the following step.
- When you are finished, click Save.
Step 7
Map Product IDs to Hyperline
Now that you have created Product IDs in Anrok for each tax category group your company uses, apply those Product IDs as Anrok Product Codes in Hyperline.
Add your Anrok Product IDs to Hyperline in the demo above ☝️
When integrating Hyperline with Anrok, each product in Hyperline must have an Anrok Product ID in the Anrok – Product code field. Make sure to copy the exact Product IDs from Anrok to avoid errors during mapping.
- In the Hyperline app
, go to Catalog > Products. Take me there!
- Select a product from the list.
- In the Anrok – Product code field, assign an Anrok Product ID to the product.
- Select Save changes.
- Repeat Step 2 for all Products listed in your Hyperline catalog.
Note
Remember to create a default product in Hyperline and add default_hyperline_product_anrok to the Anrok - Product code field. You can see an example default product in the demo above.☝️
Step 8
Import historical transactions (Optional)
Importing your historical transactions will be key to maintaining a complete picture of your economic nexus exposure. To import historical transactions:
- Contact Hyperline for an export of your historical transactions.
- Then, backfill historical transactions to Anrok by importing from a file source in your Anrok Data sources tab.
Congratulations! Your Anrok to Hyperline connection is complete.
