Integrate Anrok & Shopify

Introduction

This guide outlines the process for linking your Anrok account with Shopify. This will allow you to automatically synchronize Shopify transactions with Anrok tax return filings.

 


 

Step 1

Connect Shopify to Anrok

The first step to integrate Shopify with Anrok is connecting your Shopify account through the Anrok data sources dashboard.

  1. In the Anrok app CleanShot 2023-07-20 at 12.02.21@2x.png, go to Data sources. Take me there!
  2. Select Integrate system, then under Accounting time zoneselect the time zone that matches your Shopify account. If your time zone is already set in Settings, this will be skipped. 
  3. Under Data source, select Shopify.
  4. Click Install Anrok app.
  5. Select the Shopify store you’d like to connect to Anrok, then click Install.
  6. Shopify will redirect the page so you can select your Anrok account for connection. Select the relevant Anrok account, then click Connect.

 


 

Step 2

Add your Shopify products as product IDs

In Anrok, your Shopify products will be called product IDsProduct ID
They describe the specific product or service that was sold to your customer. Product IDs are passed to Anrok from your billing system as the product(s) you are including on the invoice.

Each product ID you sell must be mapped to a corresponding tax configuration in Anrok, which signals what taxability ruleset to apply to the product.
. These product IDs are the key drivers for calculating taxability. It's important that you add your current and previous Shopify products into Anrok. See What are product IDs?

Try adding your Shopify products in the demo above ☝️

  1. Under New products detected, select a corresponding Product type and Tax category for each product detected. See Select a tax configuration for a complete list of available Anrok tax categories.
  2. If you'd like to assign a Product type and Tax category to multiple products at once, click the checkbox  anrok_checkbox.png  next to each product, then select Batch assign.
  3. Make sure to select a Default product and Shipping cost product
  4. When you are finished, scroll down and click Continue.

 


 

Step 3

Import your Shopify transactions

Now that you've assigned all of your product IDsProduct ID
They describe the specific product or service that was sold to your customer. Product IDs are passed to Anrok from your billing system as the product(s) you are including on the invoice.

, you can now begin importing your historical transactions from Shopify into Anrok.

Try importing your Shopify transactions in the demo above ☝️ 

  1. Under Select transactions to import, select one of the following options:
    • Import all past transactions — all transactions will be imported into Anrok. This will result in a complete picture of your economic nexus and exposure.
    • Import transactions from a specific date — some past transactions will not be imported into Anrok. This may result in an incomplete picture of your current economic nexus and exposure.
    • Continue without importing past transactions — none of your historical transactions will be imported into Anrok. This may result in an incomplete picture of your economic nexus and exposure.
  2. Select Import transactions (or Mark as finished depending on your previous selection).
  3. When your transactions have finished importing, select Mark complete.

 


 

Step 4

Enable tax collection in Shopify

If you'd like to collect tax from customers in Shopify, you'll need to enable the Shopify tax engine to collect tax in a specific region.  

Try enabling Shopify tax collection  in the demo above ☝️ 

  1. In the Anrok app CleanShot 2023-07-20 at 12.02.21@2x.png, go to Jurisdictions > Remitting. Take me there!
  2. Review all jurisdictions marked as remitting_status_anrok.png in Anrok. 
  3. In the Shopify admin portal, set up the regions for tax collection that correspond to your remitting Anrok jurisdictions. Go to Shopify!
    • With an Administrator account in Shopify, select Finance > Set up tax collection
    • Under Tax Regions, select the country and/or specific region that you would like to enable in Shopify.
    • Then click Collect in new state or Collect in new region.
    • Find the jurisdiction you'd like to enable, and click Collect taxes

 


 

Step 5

Export your Shopify products and share with Anrok

  1. From the Shopify admin portal, go to Products. Take me there!
  2. Click Export.
  3. Export: All products.
  4. Export as: CSV for Excel, Numbers, or other spreadsheet programs.
  5. Click Export products.
  6. Shopify will send you an email that contains your exported products. When you receive the email, click the link to download the file. Use this form to attach the file and send it to Anrok for review. After sharing the file with Anrok, we will be in touch on any recommendations to align your Shopify products with Anrok tax categories.
