Submit an existing sales tax account

Introduction

If you have already registered for sales tax in a jurisdiction (and are currently remitting sales tax) before onboarding with Anrok, you must provide the sales tax accounts information in Anrok. Having this information reflected in Anrok ensures that Anrok can access your account to begin filing returns on your behalf in the relevant jurisdiction, helping you remain tax-compliant and fulfill your tax collection responsibilities. It will also help you avoid penalties for late or missing sales tax returns and filings.

Submit an existing sales tax account's information

For any state where you have an existing sales tax account before onboarding with Anrok, you will need to submit the account's information so Anrok can access your account and begin filing on your behalf.

Try submitting an existing sales tax account's information in the demo above ☝️

  1. In the Anrok app CleanShot 2023-07-20 at 12.02.21@2x.png, go to Jurisdictions. Take me there!
  2. Select the All tab, then select the jurisdiction with an existing sales tax account.
  3. Click Get compliant.

Section 1 - Registration details

  1. Under 'Have you completed or are you planning to pursue a Voluntary Disclosure Agreement (VDA) with this jurisdiction?', select whether you've already completed a VDA. See Overview of Voluntary Disclosure Agreements (VDA).
  2. Under 'Does your business have a sales tax account in the jurisdiction?', select Yes, then complete the following:
    • Acknowledge Anrok's account access requirement.
    • Provide the information required for Anrok to access your existing sales tax account (i.e., sales tax account number, login information, PIN, etc.).
    • Enter the amount of sales tax due on your most recently filed sales tax return.
  3. Under 'Who may we contact for follow-ups related to this registration?', select an email for our Registrations team to use for updates related to your registration in the jurisdiction.
  4. When you are finished, click Save and continue.

Section 2 - Remmitance details

  1. Under 'Do you want to remediate exposure from past filing periods using Anrok?', choose one of the following options (This question will not appear if you previously indicated that you are pursuing a VDA in the jurisdiction):
    • Yes, by filing individual tax returns for each missed period (where permitted by the jurisdiction) and remitting all taxes, penalties and interest — Recommended option if you are not going to complete a VDA. The option to file individual tax returns for each missed period is only available on Anrok's Growth plan. Please submit this form to upgrade and unlock historic return filing capabilities.
    • Yes, by including any past tax owed on my first upcoming return — Placing exposure on the first return means you'll pay your tax owed, not the penalty and interest associated with that, leaving those amounts as potential risk items on audit.
    • No, Anrok should not handle tax from prior periods — Unpaid exposure will remain outstanding, and penalties and interest on these amounts will continue to accrue.

  2. Under 'When should Anrok begin calculating tax on transactions?', select one of the following options:
    • At a specified date (e.g., today or the date you are switching to Anrok from another platform for tax calculation), Anrok will begin calculating tax on transactions dated before or after the date you switch to Anrok from another platform for tax calculation. If you select a date after switching to Anrok, exposure amounts will continue to accrue until that date.
  3. Under 'Should Anrok begin collecting tax from customers by adding tax to invoices?', select one of the following options:
    • Yes, at a specified date — Anrok will begin collecting tax from customers on a date before or after you switch to Anrok from another platform for tax calculation. If selected, for any transactions that occur between your tax calculation date and tax collection date, you will be expected to pay tax on your customer’s behalf.
    • No, taxes will be paid by you and not charged to customers — Anrok will not sync tax calculations to your customer-facing invoices. If selected, for any transactions that occur in this jurisdiction, you will pay tax on your customer’s behalf.
  4. When you are finished, click Submit.
