Introduction
Anrok helps make sure you are always collecting the right tax by plugging into your existing billing and payment tools. Once Anrok has begun calculating tax on your transactions, it is important to periodically review the transactions ingested to ensure everything is running as expected.
Review your transactions
Once your transactions are automatically syncing into Anrok, it can be helpful to review your transactions to review customer details, validate VAT IDs, and see how products are being taxed.
Note: When Anrok receives a transaction from your billing system, we have the following hierarchy when ingesting invoice information: (1) shipping address, (2) billing address, (3) payment method metadata.
Try reviewing your transactions in the demo above ☝️
- In the Anrok app
, go to Transactions. Take me there!
- Under the All tab, select a transaction. You can filter the transactions by Start date, End date, Jurisdictions, and VRN validation statuses.
- Review the Sales amount, Tax amount, and Invoice amount.
- Review the Customer, Address, and whether an Exemption certificate was applied.
- Review the associated Jurisdiction and the return the transaction has been included under. If this transaction is associated with an international jurisdiction, you can review whether the Customer VRN was valid
, invalid
, missing
, or unknown
. See What is VAT ID validation in Anrok?
- Review the Accounting date and Tax date.
- Under Jurisdiction summary, review the jurisdiction type, total sale amount, blended tax rate, and total tax amount.
- Under Transaction detail, review the product names and product IDs included on the transaction, along with their line amounts, blended tax rates, and tax amounts. To view this information separated by region, click the Drop-down button
next to a line item.
Configure new products
When you add a new product to your billing system’s product catalog, you will need to add and configure that product's tax configurations into Anrok. Doing so ensures that the correct tax rate and taxability are applied to the product or service when it is included on an invoice. Depending on whether you’ve integrated your billing system, there are two methods for configuring new products into Anrok:
Manually input new product IDs
You can manually add new products that have been added to your product catalog and assign their tax configurations. When manually adding a product into Anrok, make sure the product IDProduct ID
They describe the specific product or service that was sold to your customer. Product IDs are passed to Anrok from your billing system as the product(s) you are including on the invoice.
Each product ID you sell must be mapped to a corresponding tax configuration in Anrok, which signals what taxability ruleset to apply to the product. you add in Anrok exactly matches the product ID listed in your billing system.

- Product ID — The unique ID configured in your billing system that maps to the specific product or service.
- Under Assign a tax configuration, select a corresponding Product type and Tax category. See Select a tax configuration.

Upload certificates for tax-exempt customers
If one of your customers has an exemption certificate, you are responsible for determining whether they are making an exempt purchase and properly completing the exemption certificate. This certificate can then be added into Anrok to prevent tax from being applied to the customer’s invoices. See What is sales tax exemption?
Note: Once an exemption certificate has been uploaded, it will only automatically apply to new transactions ingested moving forward — not transactions that were created prior.
Try uploading an exemption certificate in the demo above ☝️
- In the Anrok app
, go to Certificates. Take me there!
- Click Add certificate, then under Customer details, search for the customer in the search bar. If the customer does not exist in Anrok yet, click +Add customer.

- Under Jurisdiction details, enter the Jurisdiction where the exemption certificate is valid. If there are multiple jurisdictions, you can select +Add a jurisdiction.
- When you are finished, click Save.
Monitor unprocessed transactions
The Unprocessed Transactions dashboard is designed to ensure you have clean transaction data, a clear picture of your exposures, and a streamlined workflow. Transactions listed in your Unprocessed Transactions dashboard are ones that Anrok was unable to ingest and/or update when processing the request from your external billing system. This typically means that we weren't able to add tax for those transactions and haven't included them on your tax returns.
We recommend checking the Unprocessed Transactions dashboard whenever you do a large billing run (e.g. if you invoice your customers monthly) and on an ongoing basis to monitor and resolve any unprocessed transactions.
Try monitoring your unprocessed transactions in the demo above ☝️
- In the Anrok app
, go to Unprocessed transactions. Take me there!
- Under the Unprocessed tab, review the unprocessed transaction(s).
- Scroll to the right to view the Error type and Error value, then determine the best method for resolving that type of error. See Resolve unprocessed transactions.
- If you have a large number of unprocessed transactions, click Export all to view them in a CSV file.
- Under Transaction ID, you can click the transaction link to make edits to the transaction directly in your billing system.
- After resolving the transaction's cause of error, click Retry to reprocess the transaction.
- If the transaction is insignificant and you do not have the motivation to resolve it, you can click Archive.
Now that you’ve calculated and collected tax on your transactions, you are ready to start filing your returns.
